For the past fiver years, we have had the opportunity to take a group of students to Williamsburg. This trip is sponsored by and provided for by a group of folks who support education with the proceeds they have received from their investments over the years. The Five Mile Foundation uses the proceeds to create a variety of opportunities for students, including the “If I had a Hammer Program” at Five Mile Camp and the Williamsburg “Trip of Lifetime.” The Williamsburg Trip takes place in early December. To go, students have to compete in an essay contest. They were given information about the trip at school in May. This year, we are going to do it a little differently. Students will still write the essay in class but this year, we are going to do them online, using Google Docs. We will be doing this during the first few weeks of school. This is a great opportunity but only so many kids can go. We will be traveling with students from several other schools. Students will go through weekly training for about 12 weeks to get ready for the trip. The foundation pays for everything, including a coat, a camera, and two sweat shirts. All food, lodging and transportation is included.
